Replacing “LGBT” with “Queers” was a mistake, allowing academic use of the word Queer was a mistake, and allowing corporate use of the word Queer was a gigantic fucking mistake
it’s nice to know you feel comfortable only including lesbians, gays, bi and trans people into the QUEER community when there’s a whole spectrum of sexual and gender identities you exclusionist asshole
fucking this
I think that the term “queer”, which originally stands for “strange; odd”, shouldn’t be used when associated with someone’s sexuality or gender identity.
Moreover, the “Q” in LGBTQ+ should always remain as a letter including everyone that is questioning their own identity.
Adding the “+” as for all the other sexualities and gender identities.
anyway i’m queer and a LOT of people use the word as their primary identifier or as their only identifier, because it’s a word that encompasses any sexuality or gender identity that isn’t cisgender or heterosexual. that’s literally why there was such a push against it, spearheaded by terfs. it’s “too inclusive” for them.
Hey, here’s a few notes: Queer has been used in the context of “queer studies” longer than “LGBT” has existed. while Queer has been used as a non-specific term, “gay” has also been used as an umbrella term (including trans people and bisexuals). Queer was archaically used to mean strange and curious, gay was used to mean sexual promiscuous, all our words were applied to us to mean derogatory things until we took them back.
Anyway I’m queer and people who don’t like the word need to go learn their own damn history.
We’re here,
we’re queer,
fuck off.
