I loved your Gainax list. You’re an anime fan from way back then?

Yeah. When I was really little, I lived in rural southeast Ohio, and there was a UHF station out of Athens that ran tokusetsu, sentai and anime on the weekends (very early 80′s). I remember watching stuff like Battle of the Planets and Robotech/Macross with my dad.

Then in high school, my best friend got me into Sailor Moon. That was the first anime I watched while understanding the context of it being from Japan. Then when I started going to Ohio State, I got into it with my D&D group. We used to rent everything from a (sadly, now closed) place called Neo Tokyo. They rented both licensed and fansubbed anime.

I kinda fell out of anime in the late 90′s-early 00′s. Got back into it heavily back in like 2008.

I love rewatching the stuff I watched back when I was in college. There were a lot of hidden gems.
